Editorial

Dear Reader,

We have been insanely busy at Apex over the last couple of months, that's why you're receiving the April issue of ExTra in May. Sorry. May and June are shaping up to be even worse so we'll cut to the chase and get on with it:

Domain name change

  • We switched our domain name over to www.apextra.fr for our website and e-mail to help reduce spam. A little piece of advice: don't make your e-mail address visible on any website unless you want to compare prices for Viagra and find out how to enlarge your penis.

SFT Membership

USA telephone number

  • John ran Wordfast trainings in San Francisco in February and New York in April and has plans for more US training in the near future. We've decided to get a US telephone number to make it easier to reach us: +1 678 459 APEX. However, please don't wake us up in the middle of the night! We will only answer between 3 a.m. and 1 p.m. EST or 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. CET.

Street Painting Festival

  • Les Craies d'Azur, chalk art street paintingsLastly, Les Craies d'Azur will be taking place in less than 45 days. The Junior Chamber International of Pays Niçois is currently looking for sponsors and artists to help make this event a success. Artists, this is a great opportunity to showcase your talent in front of thousands of people and help promote art in local schools. Sponsors, this is an exceptional opportunity to communicate your support for art in the streets and in the schools. Neither artist nor sponsor? Save the date and join us as a spectator on June 15!

We hope you enjoy this issue of ExTra and as always please feel free to send us your feedback or suggestions.

Thanks,

Anaïs and John Di Rico, Apex Traduction

T&I Newswire

Apex invests in professional training to improve our services

At the end of March, Apex attended a very helpful professional training organized by the SFT called "Starting up successfully and how to win clients". The morning session was somewhat redundant considering the fact that we're coming up on our three-year anniversary in October. However, we did manage to get something very valuable out of it: new terms and conditions. We're going to be overhauling our terms and conditions to provide our clients and ourselves with more protection and guarantees. These conditions will soon be made available online. We hope that they will act as a springboard for a collaborative effort between our clients and us, based on mutual understanding of each others' needs, trust, respect, transparency, and value.

This last point, value, brings us to the afternoon session. We came out of the training with a handful of ideas to add more value to the services we provide. Our mission has always been to constantly improve our processes, increase our productivity, and offer you more value for your money. That's why we're going to be investing in ever more training (including the Financial Translation Seminar taking place this summer at Euronext in Brussels), posting our glossaries on-line, taking out a professional insurance policy, and making every effort to meet our clients face-to-face.

If you have any ideas about how we can improve your client experience, please let us know! Our lines are open and were always happy to talk with you.

In the Spotlight

Monaco to Beijing 2008 takes off in t-minus 16 days!

Four local Monegasque's are about to embark on a journey of a lifetime: a transcontinental flight from Monaco to Beijing. But this isn't the sort of flying you're probably used to, with the oh-so familiar "fasten your seatbelts and store your tray table for takeoff". This is the wind in your hair, bugs in your teeth kind of flying that people have dreamed of for ages. Frédéric, Gabriel, Emmanuel, and Thierry-Paul will be making this journey using biofuel-powered, motorized paragliders.

This human endeavor will take them across Monaco, France, Italy, Slovenia, Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Kazakhstan, Mongolia, and China. They'll make several stops in each country to take weather readings, meet with locals and share their experience with the world.

Apex is pleased to be associated with this project, having already translated their website, www.monacopekin.com. We'll be doing some pro bono work for them shortly to make sure they get the authorizations they need to fly through each country.

Frédéric, Gabriel, Emmanuel, and Thierry-Paul could use your support. Please contact them as soon as possible to find out what you can do to make this adventure a success!
