Dear Reader, Hot dawg! It's time to celebrate. Apex just turned 3 on October 1st! We would like to thank everyone who has helped us get this far: clients, suppliers, friends, and family. We couldn't have done it without you--seriously!
We mentioned briefly in our last newsletter that we'll be offering some new trainings in 2009. Have a look at the events calendar for the project management software scheduled early next year in Nice. Looking forward to seeing a lot of familiar faces at the upcoming ProZ conference in Paris and hope business is pos-i-tive-ly ok you despite the financial bushwa (see the spotlight article for jazz slang leitmotif). Take care and as always, thanks for reading, Anaïs and John Di Rico, Apex Traduction Wordfast to release Wordfast 6.0 by year's end We have to admit that with all the translation work we've had over the past few months, we haven't been paying close attention to the latest Wordfast developments. After talking with the big cheese during the last Wordfast training in Paris and getting wind of Transperfect's migration to Wordfast, we thought As you may have heard, this new version of Wordfast is a standalone platform that frees you from the shackles of MS Word. You'll be able to use it on Mac, Windows, or Linux, but you're going to need more space on your hard drive. Contrary to the original Wordfast macro that runs in Word, 6.0 requires 100 MB of disk space. No big deal though, you're probably about to break the tera barrier with your next computer anyways. True to Wordfast's concern for user-friendly features, the setup process is easy and fast. The only thing you have to do is choose which dictionaries to install for the spell checker. That's right, no more Word means no more Word spell checker. So far, Wordfast has licensed out FR, EN, DE, ES, IT, and NL spell checkers. If your languages aren't in this list, you may have to hold out a while longer with 5.5. Our first surprise was to see that the color scheme changed; no more blue and Before we close, we'd like to draw your attention to one more thing: if you don't already own a license for Wordfast, now is the time to buy. All users who have a license for Wordfast 5.5 will receive a free license for 6.0 when it is released. Stay tuned for more on 6.0 in a future issue of ExTra!
Apex to translate comic book retracing 50 years of jazz history in France We've recently signed an agreement with local association Mediterranice to translate the first-ever comic book celebrating the last 50 years of jazz history in Juan-les-Pins. Apex is very excited about teaming up with local artists and bringing our American cultural baggage to this project.
We'll be sure to let you know when the Jazz comic book hits the newstands. It will be free but there will only be 40,000 copies: 20,000 in French and 20,000 in English.
